July 7th

It was a very quiet morning, Steve had kindly left some moths for me to look at, which included a stunning Garden Tiger and our first Bordered Straw.

Garden Tiger

Bordered Straw

I watched from the granary across the valley for half an hour and was rewarded with WOODPIGEONS! and not lots of them, also a KESTREL hunted near the stream the first one this week. With not much happening I tried the hedges again, yesterdays Chiffchaffs had all but disappeared and were replaced by 9 or 10 WHITETHROATS. There was one bird 'tacking' in the hedgerow which wouldn't show itself, it was probably aware I had to move on to get to work on time! Tomorrow is another day, hopefully with a bit more going on, at least this morning I did put a coat on and was ready for the quick shower that got me :-)
This evening I grabbed 10 minutes looking across the valley and had 1 BUZZARD and 5 SWIFTS.

We still have to grind a few more weeks out before the chance of anything of note passing through Alan :-)

Lots of Swifts going over here today.

Hi Warren, I agree, it's slim pickings at the moment ;-)

Hi Greenie, They are beauties, that Garden Tiger certainly brightens up proceedings.

Hi Dean, We have been hoping for Scarce Bordered Straw over the last couple of years, hopefully we'll get one soon. Have Garden Tiger or Bordered Straw been recorded near you at all?

Hi Alan,
It is pretty quiet on the bird front at the moment! You are getting some nice moths though, I am seeing some nice butterflies, which sort of compensates!

Hi John, I'm with you on the bird front, it's nice that there is always something else out there to look at :-)
