March 4th

It was a much nicer start this morning, the wind had dropped and there was hazy sunshine. I decided to stick to the fields today, a couple of Skylarks were singing away and at least 3 or 4 Song Thrushes were singing, unlike the last two days. I counted 16 Blackbirds in scattered localities mainly along the various hedgerows. A Treecreeper sang from by the moat at the same time a distant Canada could be heard. It was pretty sticky under foot, my aim was to get to where the bunting flock has been. I could hear Yellowhammers before I got to them, when I got close I counted about 15 birds in all plus 3 Reed Buntings. The Yellowhammers were also starting to burst into song, with around 4 birds joining in. A single Grey Heron flew over and a Pied Wagtail was in the sheep field. Below the car park there as again a gathering of 30 Fieldfares and 10 Redwings, finally 3 Greenfinches were chasing eachother round the car park, even though I've just been on holiday I could have quite easily stayed and walked around all day!!
