September 6th - Windy!!

Not really expecting much this morning, I headed off waterproofs at the ready! It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, it was windy, no doubt, but squally showers, rather than torrential rain were the order for my hour long visit. HERRING GULLS were drifting north most of the time I was there, with possibly 30 or 40 being the total for the hour. One SPOTTED FLYCATCHER cowered next to the hedge and only small parties of SWALLOWS and HOUSE MARTINS were making their way into the wind over the car park. A flock of 4 LINNETS flew over higher than I expected to see them, then another group of hirundines included 3 SWALLOWS and 2 SAND MARTINS, a GREY HERON also battled it's way over the veg garden.
A quick scan from the top of 'large field' (now split into three) produced one of the long staying WHINCHAT and the only BLACKCAP of the visit 'tacked' in the hedge behind me. Moving on, I was surprised to glimpse a COMMON BUZZARD being buffeted by the wind, before it thought better of it. A nice surprise was, what was probably one yesterdays five WHEATEARS, that was on the edge of the stubble. Lastly, around a dozen YELLOHAMMERS were sheltering in one of the many hedges.

Hi Greenie, it was 50/50 whether I did go but glad I did.

Hi Warren, I'm glad they come out before 8am here, otherwise I'd never see any!! :-)
